KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (KUNA) -- Australian voters on Saturday headed to the legislative elections to fill the 151-seat parliament in the House of Representatives and about half of the 78 seats in the Senate.
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) said in a statement that record numbers of voters have already cast their ballots at early voting centers or via postal votes, and more than half of the total votes had been cast by Friday evening.
Voting is compulsory in Australia and just over 17.2 million people have enrolled to vote, it added.
This year's elections come at a time of rising inflation that will undermine the strong Australian economy. (end) aab.tam.gaa
