WASHINGTON, May 17 (KUNA) --The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized on Tuesday a booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children between the ages of five and 11, making them the youngest age group to be eligible for boosters. "While it has largely been the case that COVID-19 tends to be less severe in children than adults, the Omicron wave has seen more kids getting sick with the disease and being hospitalized," FDA Commissioner Robert Califf said in a statement." The regulator's latest clearance aims to help provide maximum protection against COVID-19 in that cohort, he added. (end) rsr.nam
