KUWAIT, May 14 (KUNA) -- Wam indicated that the election was held in a session attended by Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qasemi, member of the council and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Hamid bin Rashed Al-Nuaimi, member of the council and Ajman Ruler, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammad Al-Sharqi, council member and Al-Fujairah Ruler, Sheikh Saud bin Rashed Al-Muallah, council member and Umm Al-Qaiwain Ruler, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al-Qasemi, council member and Ras Al-Khaimah Ruler.
Wam quoted a statement by the Presidential Affairs Ministry as saying that in line with Article 51 of the constitution, Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan was unanimously elected as UAE President, succeeding the late president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
The top leaders during the meeting affirmed their keenees on remaining faithful to the path of the late president, namely principles he had adopted from the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, who had masterminded the process of solidifying the UAE regional and international status.
They expressed full confidence that the UAE people would safeguard the accomplishments and expressed good wishes to the new president, who voiced gratitude for the confidence accorded to him from members of the higher council. (end) tma.rk
