KUWAIT, April 2 (KUNA) -- International Children's Book Day (ICBD) inspires the love of reading and to call attention to children cultural growth, said a Kuwait author Saturday.
The winner of Kuwait incentive award in children's literature Mohammad Jaraq said in a statement to KUNA that the yearly event was founded in 1967 in commemoration of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, born 1805. The ICBD is sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People, an international non-profit organization.
He added that the different kinds of media nowadays took a huge role in children's lifestyle, which contributed to their learning and reading processes easily.
ICBD promotes their activities through media and organize activities in schools and public libraries, he noted.
He pointed out that this year the international children's book day coincided with Ramadan, which can be beneficial for the kids to read about the holy month.
He called on media outlets, including local press, satellite channels, and social media, to shed more light on the importance of reading and books, especially children's books. (end) tab.gaa
