KUWAIT, Dec 28 (KUNA) -- Here are the main events in the Arab world throughout 2021, we continue with Lebanon.


LEBANON:

Jan 28: A plane sent by Kuwait Red Crescent Society arrives in Beirut carrying medical and humanitarian supplies to help Lebanon to face the spread of the Coronavirus.

Feb 25: The special tribunal for Lebanon in Hague announces it will extend its mission for two more years to try those accused of the Beirut bombing in 2005, which killed the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Hariri and 21 others.

May 4: Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed on the importance of following up in negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, regarding the marmite borders in line with the international law.

May19: Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe hands his resignation to President Aoun, following offensive remarks broadcasted of an interview with him against the Gulf Cooperation Country (GCC).

May 23: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributed 200 tons of agricultural products to Lebanese families and Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

May 24: KRCS allocated USD half million to offer Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccinations to the Lebanese people, as well as, Syrian and Palestinian refugees.

May 25: KRCS announced its contribution in conducting 14 open-heart surgeries for Lebanese children and Syrian refugees.

June 11: President Aoun called on UN agencies and friendly countries to support Lebanon to find a way out of its months-long crisis, urging them to send back the Syrian refugees to their home, which are safe by now.

June 14: President Aoun?confirms desire to resume indirect negotiations to settle down the maritime borders in Naqoura southern Lebanon, with US mediation.

June 17: KRCS launched the outpatient building?at children cancer centre in Lebanon, a building financed by KRCS following damages caused by Beirut Port explosion that took place in August 2020.

June 18: KRCS launched a campaign to offer Covid-19 vaccinations to Syrian refugees in Lebanon, to reaching the society immunity in Lebanon.

 June 19: European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Joseph Borrell said that offering European aid to Lebanon is subject to proper reforms in the country, and warning against imposing sanctions on Lebanon in case it does not fulfil any development on that matter.

June 19: KRCS Covid-19 vaccination to Palestinian refugees kicked off in Lebanon.

June 20: KRCS launched new medical wards in Al-Wardia Hospital in Beirut, as KRCS financed its reconstruction after the damages it suffered following Beirut Port explosion in 2020.

June 21: Lebanese President Aoun expressed his gratitude to Kuwait for aiding Lebanese people.

June 25: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributes 5,000 food parcels during Ramadan to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

July 13: Lebanese said that parliamentary elections would be held as scheduled next spring.

July 14: Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri present to President Michel Aoun the cabinet of 24 specialized ministers.

July 15: Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Al-Hariri present his resignation from government.

July 26: Lebanese President Michel Aoun appoints former Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to form a new government after parliamentary consultations.

August 1: Five killed, among them Hezbollah senior commander, in clashes south of Beirut, during a funeral ceremony to one of Hezbollah senior officials, Ali Shebli.

August 4: Rockets fired from southern Lebanon toward occupied Palestinian lands, targeting Israeli settlement Kiryat Shimon, and Israeli retaliate with heavy artillery.

August 6: Hezbollah fires rockets targeting Shebaa farms in response to Israeli air raids into Lebanese territories.

August 6: Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society handed over to the Lebanese Red Cross 10 fully equipped ambulances, four cars designated for blood transfusion centers and a car for collecting a blood bank provided by the Kuwait Fund Arabic Economic Development (KFAED).

August 13: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) distributed eight tons of children milk formula as part of its efforts to support the Lebanese and Syrian refugees in need.

August 14: Kuwait's Red Crescent Society (KRCS) said it has sent some eight tons of medical aid to Lebanon as part of efforts to help the country cope with worsening health conditions, Syrian and Palestinian refugees.

August 15: Lebanon Health officials announced a state of emergency to face health and humanitarian repercussions of the benzene-filled tanker explosion in the northern region of Akkar, the blast led to the killing of 27 people and the injury of 79 others.

August 16: Kuwait Red Crescent announced it would support Lebanese people injured in Akkar explosion, which took place north of Lebanon.

August 22: Kuwait Airways plane transported six Lebanese people injured in Akkar explosion, to be treated in Kuwait for medical treatment.

August 26: Justice Tareq Bitar, the leading investigator into last summer's Beirut port blast issued a subpoena for caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab after he failed to show up for questioning, the blast resulted in killing and injuring hundreds.

Sept 9: Lebanon's caretaker social affairs and economy minister Ramzi Al-Meshrafi announced a long-awaited cash card program to throw a desperately needed financial lifeline to half a million vulnerable families, which will be financed by the World Bank.

Sept 10: Lebanon presidency announces the formation of government, which consist of 24 ministers, led by Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Sept 17: Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus touted Kuwait and Japan as a strategic partner to Lebanon in the health sector, citing its unremitting assistance to Lebanon to overcome its crises.

Sept 18: Four injured in clashes in Palestinian Ain Al-Hawla refugee camp south of Lebanon.

Sept 20: Lebanese parliament grants the new government a vote of confidence with 85 votes yes and 15 votes no.

Sept 21: Participating countries in a meeting with UN Special Representative to Lebanon with the Lebanese Army affirm support to the Lebanese Army, due to being a vital element in stability to the country.

Sept 27: Justice Tareq Bitar, the leading investigator into last summer's Beirut port blast ordered halt to the case, until the court of appeals in Beirut makes a decision regarding a filing from Member of Parliament (MP) Nehad Al-Mashnouq.

Oct 1: UN Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Najat Rochdi announced a collective response plan, evaluated at USD 383 million, to meet the basic needs of Lebanon migrants and refugees.

Oct 7: Rafiq Al-Hariri International Airport receives a Kuwait Air Force plane carrying three tons of baby formula as a gift from the Kuwaiti people to the Lebanese people.

Oct 14: a delegation from the Arab Planning Institute (API) conclude visit Lebanon, and agree to form a joint team to support negotiations in Lebanon, and another team to work with the Lebanese ministry of finance to work on the country's budget.

Oct 15: Lebanon Health officials says the number of people killed in the capital protests and unrest in Al-Taiyona area resulted in killing seven people.

Oct 19: Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed his country's keenness to cooperate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reach an agreement as soon as possible on updating the financial, monetary and banking recovery plan in Lebanon.

Oct 27: Lebanese foreign ministry condemns "terrorist attacks" which targeted the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing on Lebanon support to the security and safety of GCC countries.

Oct 29: Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati express sorrow over the summon of Saudi Arabia ambassador to Lebanon, and expelling Lebanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia as result of disgraced comments made by  Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi.

   Oct 30: Lebanese President Michel Aoun said he wants the best relations with Saudi Arabia and no views should affect ties between the two countries, after the kingdom summoned its ambassador, expelled Beirut's envoy and banned Lebanese imports.
   Nov 3: At least two people were killed and two others wounded in an explosion at a Syrian refugees camp near the town of Majdaloun in the Baalbek region, northeastern Lebanon.
   Nov 8: Lebanese President Michel Aoun said he welcomes any efforts by the Arab League to restore relations with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
   Nov 12: Lebanese President Michel Aoun renews calls for the European Union (EU) to ease the return of Syrian refugees to safety and their homes.
   Nov 12: A UN Economy and Social Committee proposes a transition period, clear and gradual to end the Lebanese financial and economic crisis.
   Nov 13: Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati calls on the army, all security apparatus to end wild fires in a number of areas south of Lebanon.
   Nov 16: Lebanese President Michel Aoun welcomes Turkey efforts and the safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
   Dec 2: United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the European Union, are securing a monthly grant to support 20,000 special needs' persons in Lebanon.
   Dec 3: Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi tendered his resignation. In a press conference, Kordahi affirmed that he was resigning to put the interest of the country, its people, and loved ones head of his own.
   Dec 6: Lebanon signed an agreement to open the Regional Office of the International Francophone Organization for the Middle East in Beirut.
   Dec 17: One in two children in Lebanon is at serious risk of physical, emotional, or sexual violence, as families struggle to cope in the country's deepening crisis, according to a new report from United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
   Dec 19: Visiting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reaffirmed solidarity of "the UN family" with Lebanon until it overcomes the current economic hardship.
   Dec 24: Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed his country "respects Security Council resolution 1701 and all the other resolutions on this plan," with reference to the cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel after the July 2006 war. (more)
