AMMAN, Dec 19 (KUNA) -- Speaker of the Arab Parliament (AP) Adel Al-Asousi on Sunday called on the AP's Palestine committee to form an initiative to achieve inter-Palestinian reconciliation and unity.
In remarks to KUNA following a committee meeting as part of standing committees' activities in Ammand today, Al-Asousi said that Palestine will remain the "key cause".
Al-Asousi asked the Palestine committee to give a vision for a new initiative to unify Palestinian ranks and ensure national unity in order to better encounter great challenges facing the Palestinian people.
AP Palestine committee member and Fatah Movement's central committee member Azzam Al-Ahmad said in remarks to KUNA that the AP initiative, the Algerian call, and the Egyptian role, form together "important initiatives to end the Palestinian division", as a divided state cannot work out.
He stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause by the Arab nations adhering to the Arab initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.
The meeting approved a draft resolution that will be presented during the meeting of the second session due Thursday, emphasizing the importance of ending divisions in the Palestinian scene, and working hard enough to reach national unity.
This draft resolution also calls on the international community to support the peace plan launched by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations (UN), and to re-submit it to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). (end) ab.lb
