DOHA, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed ways to keep Kabul airport open and deliver further aid to Afghanistan.
In a joint statement of both officials "Qatar and Turkey are continuously working with the interim government in Afghanistan to reach an agreement to refunction the airport ", according to a media source. It added that they also discussed strengthening humanitarian, political and economic efforts and unify the efforts of the international community to deal with the Afghan file.
They also discussed the developments of other regional files, especially the Palestinian file and the developments in Iraq, Syria about the consultation between the two countries on regional files.
The briefing took place as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Doha for two days of talks as Turkey seeks to rebuild relations with former rivals in the energy-rich Gulf region, including UAE, whose crown prince last month visited Turkey for the first time since 2012.
Regarding the economic situation in Turkey, Sheikh Mohammed Al-Thani said that Qatar is closely following the global economy and trusts that politicians in Turkey will make appropriate interventions, adding that Qatar is confident that the Turkish economy is diversified and built on solid foundations.
On the simultaneous visits of the Turkish President and the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to Qatar, the Turkish Foreign Minister said, "When we begin to normalize relations, we find such visits simultaneous, and this is normal." Cavusoglu said that Turkey and Qatar should set an example to the international community in delivering humanitarian aid to Afghan people He added that on the Syrian file, inviting the Syrian regime to attend the Arab League summit or any other international meeting without any radical solution would lead to continue its brutality and its aggressions.
The seventh meeting of the Higher Strategic Committee will be held between Qatar, headed by the Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday. (end) nnd.gaa
