ROME, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- The Mausoleum of Augustus, built by Roman Emperor Octavian Augustus in the center of Rome 2,000 years ago, is a testament to Roman civilization and a glorification of his golden age, and serving as a burial place for successfive emperors.
Emperor Augustus built the Mousoleum in 28 BC, following his victory over Queen Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium, to be the largest round-shape tomb in the world.
The 12-meter-high Mausoleum, with a base diameter of 90 meters, is constructed of white stone. A 45-meter-high cylinder shape, topped by Augustus statue built of gold-plated bronze, sits in the middle of the Mausoleum, located in Piazza Augusto Imperatore in Rome. (end) mn.bs
