BRUSSELS, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- The European Union Monday stressed on the implementation of a vaccination strategy to deal with the rising number of coronavirus infections in Europe.
"In the fight against the virus we call to heavily implement the vaccination strategy in EU member states," Stefan de Keersmaecker, EU spokesperson for Public Health, told a news conference in Brussels.
"You know the three words very well, vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate. These are the words that will help us to make sure that we can tackle this virus. So this remain extremely important," he stressed.
Meanwhile, commenting on widespread protests in Europe against COVID measures, Dana Spinant, Deputy Chief Spokesperson of the European Commission, told the same press conference that "we have always been clear that peaceful demonstrations are a fundamental right in all democratic countries." "The Commission has consistently maintained that there is no place for violence and national authorities are competent for law enforcement measures also in demonstrations around the EU. Under public health emergencies certain rights can also be restricted," she added.
According to media reports, thousands of people have been protesting against vaccination in European cities like the Hague, Rotterdam, Brussels and elsewhere.
