CAIRO, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- Arab Parliament speaker, Adel Al-Asoumi Thursday, called for putting forth a parliamentary plan empowering women, that could indeed be translated into reality.
Arab parliament stated that this came during Al-Asoumi's inaugural speech of a conference dubbed, Empowering Women in Arab Region, transmitted via zoom platform and organized by Arab parliament, Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as other bodies.
Al-Asoumi suggested creating a parliamentary guide which includes legislations, national, regional and international practices, that could pave the way for empowering Arab women.
He indicated that unprecedented measures are being taken in this regard, as empowering women comes as a priority for new Arab Parliament strategy.
Amongst such steps is organizing the first forum for Arab women parliamentarians and providing a platform to discuss all related issues.
Speaker Al-Asoumi stated that the parliament is invested in shaping the capabilities of Arab parliamentary women, indicating that first practical specialized diploma is being organized with participation of international specialized experts.
Al-Asoumi added that empowering women is no longer a matter of echoing slogans but is an inevitable matter in order for Arab nation to achieve further development growth and prosperity.
He indicated that while many Arab countries made significant steps towards empowering women, a long way remains ahead until Arab women attain their rightful place corresponding to their remarkable abilities. (end) mfm.rg.aai
