GAZA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement announced Friday the suspension of Palestinian prisoners' nine-day hunger strike, as their demands were met.
"After nine days of open hunger strike and 40 days of rebellion and disobedience, prisoners' demands have been met and the strike has ended," said the Jihad in a press statement.
The demands included the immediate cessation of violence practiced against Jihad members in Israeli prisons, and the lifting of all punitive measures against prisoners, the statement added.
Among the demands, there were also better life conditions for female prisoners, cancelation of financial penalties, and restoring the organizational representation of the (Islamic Jihad) movement.
The movement considered the strike suspension as victory for Palestinian people and all those who fight for their cause.
On October 13, Palestinian prisoners' foundations declared that prisoners belonging to Islamic Jihad movement have gone on hunger strike protesting aggressive measures taken against them following the escape and recapture of six prisoners last September. (end) wab.nhq
