KUWAIT, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- A total 71 per cent of Kuwait's population have been administered two shots of a locally-approved COVID-19 vaccine with 79 per cent having received one jab, Kuwait's health minister told a cabinet session on Thursday.
The figures were raised as Health Minister Sheikh Dr Basel Al-Sabah briefed ministers on the nationwide coronavirus vaccination campaign, the results of which have seen a return to the pre-pandemic re-opening of facilities and establishments.
Explaining the strategy, the minister said the campaign began with a focus on the priority-specific segment of the population, including over-60s, followed by the wider population alongside hard to reach places.
The minister went on to outline the difficulties and challenges of inspection procedures pertaining to overseas vaccine certificates for incoming expatriates, which have so far totaled 345,603.
Upon reviewing the figures, ministers praised the health ministry for their efforts to control the pandemic across the country amid the nationwide reopening.
They also expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the public's keenness, nationals and expatriates, and their turnout in numbers to take the vaccine, which has led to this positive outcome.
Separately, ministers discussed planning and execution procedures for state-funded development projects on the way in healthcare, public utilities (greenery and shrubbery across the mainland and islands) and housing for nationals. (end) kda.sd
