BRUSSELS, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- The European Union Tuesday said that the bloc's relations with China has changed and that the "values gap" between the two sides is growing.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell told the European Parliament in Strasbourg in a debate tonight that ties with China have changed "in the past months.. and not necessarily for the better. Relations have become increasingly challenging".
But he stressed that "China will remain an increasingly assertive global power that does not shy away from applying economic pressure on countries and actors whose policies it disagrees with".
"We need to engage with China, as a key economic partner and political player without whom we cannot address global challenges effectively," he added. (end) nk
