WASHINGTON, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- The wildfire raging in Northern California has now become the second largest in the state history, burning 463,477 acres with only 21 percent contained.
The Dixie Fire has forced thousands of people from their homes, as over 400 structures were destroyed, at least 27 were damaged and almost 14,000 structures threatened, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
It said that "firefighters continue to provide structure defense and reinforce containment lines," adding that "damage assessment is ongoing." On the East Zone, "firefighters will scout and verify containment and contingency lines along the fire perimeter to try to control the fire." According to media outlets, full containment of the blaze is expected on August 20. (end) si.hb
