TUNIS, July 26 (KUNA) -- Units of the Tunisian Presidential Guards have sealed off the government headquarters in the district of Kasbah barring staff from entering it.
The Tunisian radio station, "Shams," quoted witnesses as saying, on Monday, that the personnel stationed their vehicles around the government palace and asked employees intending to enter the building to return.
No violence was reported around the cabinet offices. However earlier today, the Tunisian media reported skirmishes between supporters of President Kais Saied who suspended the parliament, sacked the prime minister and his government.
The president took the decisions on Sunday in line with Article 80 of the Tunisian Constitution that stipulates that the president can take "extraordinary measures in the face of emerging dangers." Many Tunisians yesterday took to the streets protesting mismanagement of the coronavirus crisis, rampant corruption and hard living conditions. (end) ksj.rk
