CAIRO, June 24 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Thursday deplored Honduras for relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, regarding the action as a grave violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy's resolutions which confirm the historical and legal status of the city.
The UN Security Council resolutions 476 and 468 issued in 2008 on this matter stress that East Jerusalem is an Arab Palestinian land, and the relocation of any embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is prohibited, the Cairo-based League's Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestinian and other Arab Occupied Territories Sector Said Abu Ali said in a press statement.
He said that this is a flagrant aggression on Palestinians' rights and territories as well as sanctities, warning against the repercussions on the Arab ties with Honduras due to this move.
Meanwhile, Abu Ali condemned the Israeli government's ratification of building new settlement units in the occupied Palestinian territories.
This confirms the continuation of settlement projects and Judaization policy carried out by the Israeli occupation, he noted.
He called on the Security Council to assume its responsibility to set mechanisms in order to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 23342.
Earlier in the day, Honduras relocated its embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied Jerusalem in the presence of its president Juan Hernandez and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. (end) mfm.aff.hm
