KUWAIT, May 4 (KUNA) --

1959 -- Kuwait's first oil tanker, Kadhma, arrived at Ahmadi Port with 68 sailors on board. The tanker, whose construction began in Japan on December 15, 1958, could carry 46,000 tons.

1961 -- Department of Police and Security called on Kuwaitis and residents in Kuwait city and remote villages who had been living there before 1920 up until 1954 to go visit the Nationality verification office in Qibla and Shamiya areas.

1969 -- Awwad Salem, a prominent folkloric singer, passed away at age of 65.

1970 -- Graduation of the first class of the military academy.

1999 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah dissolved parliament. It happened after submission of two no-confidence motions against Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ahmad Al-Kulaib due to typing mistakes in some copies of Holy Quran.

2001 -- Kuwait's Hamad Al-Afasi won double-trap competition in the world shooting championship, held in Cairo, Egypt.

2010 -- Claremont McKenna College awarded Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws.

2011 -- Sheikh Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who had been Kuwait's Minister of Amiri Diwan since its establishment until 1990, passed away at age of 76.

2011 -- Health care hospital opened in Al-Sabah Health Area with a capacity of 91 beds. Construction of the hospital cost more than five million Kuwaiti Dinars (KD).

2013 -- Kuwait's Abdulaziz Al-Mandeel won the 110-meter hurdle race in the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok, Thailand.

2013 -- Kuwait won the GCC Taekwondo Championship, held in Doha, Qatar.

2015 -- Kuwait's Ministry of Finance issued a resolution setting minimum capital of new companies.

2017 -- Dr. Abdullah Muhareb, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALECSO), passed away at age of 70.

2020 -- Kuwait donated USD 40 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) as part of contributions to help countries fight spread of Covid-19, raising total grants to WHO to USD 100 million. (end) bs
