ISLAMABAD, April 21 (KUNA) -- At least four people were killed and around 12 others received injuries in a blast that exploded in the parking lot of a five star hotel in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province late on Wednesday night.
A senior police official, DIG Azhar Ikram said that the explosive device was apparently fitted in a vehicle in Serena Hotel at the Shahrah-e-Zarghun Road in Quetta city, the provincial capital.
He confirmed that at least four people including a policeman was killed while 12 others received injuries.
The security forces cordoned off the area while the fire and rescue teams rushed to the hotel.
A senior official at the government run Quetta hospital, Medical Superintendent Arbab Kamran Kasi also confirmed the casualties, saying two injured people were in critical condition.
Addressing a press conference over the incident, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove said that there was a wave of terrorism in the region, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Resource-rich Balochistan province has witnessed many violent attacks in the past where militants' have targeted security forces and government institutions.
Earlier in 2019, at least five people were killed and several injured in a gun-and-bomb attack targeting the five-star Pearl Continental hotel in Gwadar port city of Balochistan. (end) sbk.ibi
