KUWAIT, March 1 (KUNA) -- 1923 --

Arab Writer Amin Al-Raihani visited Kuwait as a guest to the Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He documented his visit and the cultural development in Kuwait in his book: Mulook Al-Arab (Kings of Arabs).

1959 -- A law to organize public donations, signed by director of Publications and Social Affairs and Labor Department Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, took effect.

1964 -- Hunting and Equestrian Club was officially launched with the objective of organizing local competitions, and competing in Gulf, Arab and international tournaments.

1973 -- Kuwait signed a 1972 international treaty banning pollution of seas by dumping.

1979 -- Kuwait Towers, located at the sea front, opened for the public.

1981 -- Public Institute for Social Security began application social security for self-employed senior citizens, disabled and the sick persons.

1982 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree paving way for membership in the constitution of the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

1991 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree forming a security committee with a mandate of planning a policy aimed at preserving security and safety of the State domestically and externally. The committee was formed after Kuwait's liberation on February 26 in same year.

1991 -- The first shipment of oil products and liquified gas was imported to meet domestic needs following the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq.

1998 -- President of Kuwait University Dr. Fayza Al-Kharafi was elected as member of board of UN University for a six-year term.

2002 -- Abdulqader Al-Sarhan, the first Mayor of Failaka Island, passed away at the age of 88. He was a leading figure of the Island, working as an Imam and preacher, a teacher and a judge. He was named Mayor in 1962.

2003 -- Vanguard of Peninsula Shield forces arrived in Kuwait to help defend the country against Iraqi regime's threats. The force included 250 vehicles carrying light and heavy weapons.

2005 -- Kuwait's Ministry of Planning opened a center to provide maintenance and technical support for Microsoft-installed infrastructure in 54 government departments.

2015 -- Kuwait National Assembly's Al-Majlis TV launched a 24-hour telecast. The channel includes news bulletins, political and social programs.

2016 -- The Arab Educationa, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) selected president of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain Foundation, Abdulaziz Al-Babtain, a good-will ambassador.

2016 -- Kuwait National Assembly approved a government request to withdraw 150 million Kuwaiti Dinars (KD) from the General Reserve Fund.

2017 -- Kuwait's Yusuf Al Abdulrazzaq was registered at the Guinness World Records for winning the international jetski championship three years in a row. (end) bs
