TOKYO, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Japan reported 4,573 new cases of the coronavirus over the last 24 hours as of 04:00 p.m. (0700 GMT) on Friday, raising the nation's total number to 353,695, the health ministry and local authorities said.
The country's cumulative death toll rose by 69 to 4,880. Tokyo added 1,175 new infections, topping 1,000 for the 10th straight day, which brought the total cases in the Japanese capital to 91,834.
The tallies exclude those who were linked to the virus-hit Diamond Princess cruise ship in February.
To contain the spread of the coronavirus, the government has put Tokyo and 10 other prefectures under a second state of emergency, including Kanagawa and Osaka.
Under the declaration running through February 7, residents in 11 prefectures are urged to refrain from nonessential outings after 08:00 p.m. Restaurants and other establishments are also asked to close by 08:00 p.m. (end) mk.gta
