KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- At least 60 people were killed in a powerful earthquake that hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi last Friday, the national crises prevention agency reported Sunday.
It added in a statement more than 820 people were injured while homes of around 15,000 people were destroyed by the 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
Rescue teams have been searching for bodies from under the rubble and possible survivors.
The Indonesian archipelago in Southeast Asia is exposed to frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its location on the Pacific Ocean "Ring of Fire" where tectonic plates collide. (end) aab.bs
