WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- US House of Representatives approved late Tuesday a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to remove President Donald Trump from office by invoking the 25th Amendment, but Pence objected the move.
The 25th Amendment resolution, calls on Pence "to immediately use his powers under section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene and mobilize the principal officers of the executive departments in the Cabinet to declare what is obvious to a horrified nation: That the President is unable to successfully discharge the duties of his office." It also calls on Pence to assume "the powers and duties of the office as Acting President." The resolution passed 223-205 with one Republican voting in favor.
In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi before the vote, Pence wrote "I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution." "Last week, I did not yield to pressure to exert power beyond my constitutional authority to determine the outcome of the election, and I will not now yield to efforts in the House of Representatives to play political games at a time so serious in the life of our Nation," he stressed.
This comes as the House is expected to vote on Wednesday to impeach Trump on one charge of "incitement of insurrection." (end) si.aa
