LONDON, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- A second wave of coronavirus (Covid-19) is currently hitting the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday, adding it is expected and inevitable.
Speaking in a news conference, Johnson said he does not "want to go into bigger lockdown measures" like the ones implemented between March and July.
Tightening social distancing restrictions is inevitable, he emphasized.
He stressed the necessity of maintaining schools and most economic activities open as much as possible.
He called on citizens to abide by the current measures pertaining to the novel coronavirus or the ones to be declared by the government.
Johnson's statement came as the health ministry announced earlier in the day that 27 patients died of the disease and 4,322 others were diagnosed with it in 24 hours. (end) mrn.maa.hm
