CAIRO, July 11 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Saturday said it welcomed an announcement by Libya's state-run oil firm to resume oil production after international talks succeeded in ending a blockade by eastern-based forces which halted the war-torn nation's energy exports.
In a statement, the Cairo-based bloc hailed Libyan and international efforts to break the impasse and allow oil output to resume at Libya's National Oil Corporation in a "transparent and just" manner.
Protecting the North African country's "treasured assets," including its energy infrastructure, is crucial to restore stability and development to Libya, added the statement.
Libya's eastern-based forces led by Khalifa Haftar shut down the country's oil production in January, stifling revenue for state institutions nationwide. (end) mfm.nam
