KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (KUNA) -- Singaporeans are heading to polling stations nationwide on Friday to cast their votes in parliamentary snap elections under the threat of increasing coronavirus infection numbers.
The Southeast Asian nation has 2.65 million eligible voters, who will opt to select representatives out of 192 candidates from 11 political parties.
The ruling People's Action Party (PAP), which won a majority 83 out of a total 89 seats in the earlier 2015 elections, will be tested amid recent criticism.
Led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong since 2004, the party will face the opposition Progress Singapore Party, which his estranged brother Lee Hsien Yang recently joined - both sons of the nation's founder Lee Kuan Yew.
Despite choosing not to join the race, Lee Hsien Yang's fierce feud with his brother signals a major shift in the country's politics. (end) aab.sd
