AMMAN, July 7 (KUNA) -- An Arab ministerial meeting confirmed, Tuesday, full stand by the Palestinians in fulfilling all their legitimate rights, of having an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The meeting also stressed the rejection of Israel's plans to annex any part of the occupied Palestinian territories and considering it clear "violation" of international law. This came in the closing statement of the visually meeting called by Jordan to discuss the efforts made to prevent the implementation of Israel's decision to annex occupied Palestinian lands and p?rotect the chances of achieving justified peace from the "unprecedented danger" of the annexation decision.
The meeting, in which the Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit, and the foreign ministers of a number of Arab countries, including Kuwait, called on the international community to take "influential" measures to prevent the implementation of the annex decision in order to protect international law and peace.
It also stressed the importance of returning to "serious" talks that resolve the conflict on the basis of a two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy decisions and a make efforts to support negotiations leading to a comprehensive peace agreement that guarantees the full rights of the Palestinian people and security of Israel.
The statement emphasized the importance of sticking to the Arab Peace Initiative in 2002, which confirmed the readiness of all Arab countries to consider the conflict ended and to enter into a peace agreement with Israel while achieving security for all countries of the region upon its complete withdrawal from the occupied Arab lands and its acceptance of the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
The statement stressed the need for Israel not to implement the annexation decision that "will fuel the conflict and extremism" and the need for Israel to affirm its true desire to achieve peace by entering into "effective and direct" negotiations with the Palestinians to reach a peace agreement.
The meeting was held with the participation of the foreign ministers of Jordan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco and Palestine, which are the member states of the Arab ministerial delegation of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee.
Foreign ministers of Tunisia, the Arab member of the Security Council, and Oman, president of the current regular session of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, and Kuwait, the former Arab member of the Security Council, also participated at the meeting (end) mjb.ma.sam
