By Mohammad Al-Kandari KUWAIT, July 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced on Monday 703 new infections with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) during past 24 hours raising total of contaminations with the communicable germ to 50,644.
Health authorities recorded five deaths during the same period, putting overall count of fatalities due to infection with the pathogen at 373 since its outbreak in the country months ago.
Official spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) some of these cases had gotten close to infected persons and infection source of the others was being traced.
The updated total caseload includes 463 Kuwaiti nationals and 263 240 expatriates, Dr. Al-Sanad told KUNA.
Giving a breakdown of the cases' distribution per district, Dr. Al-Sanad said 209 of the patients were registered in Al-Ahmadi, 180 in Al-Jahraa, 131 in Al-Farwaniya, 115 in Hawally and 68 in Al-Assima (the capital).
Currently, there are patients 152 receiving treatment at intensive care wards and count of the confirmed cases that remained under medical treatment amounted to 9,270, Dr. Al-Sanad revealed.
He added that 139 patients were discharged from quarantine, during the past 24 hours, however they would sequester themselves at home for 14 days.
The health authorities conducted 3,351 swab tests in the past 24 hours, raising the whole count to 409,335, Dr. Al-Sanad added.
Earlier today, the Health Ministry announced recovery of 538 people from the coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the tally to 41,001. (end) mak.sam
