KUWAIT, June 3 (KUNA) -- Thousands of protestors have continued defying curfew in New York packing public places and streets in ongoing demonstrations over recent death of a US citizen of African origin by a police officer, according to the US media.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered tightening the curfew in New York and its suburbs that went effect as of 8 p.m. local time (Tuesday), but he ignored an advice by President Donald Trump and the city governor, Andrew Cuomo, to call in the National Guard.
The angry protestors continued to roam the streets en mass in the city suburbs, showing no intention to back down since death of George Floyd on May 25.
Police have detained protestors who breached the curfewn, blockaded highways and tried to disperse large groups of the activists.
The African American had died after he was pinned down by a white police officer for nine minutes. The officer ignored his pleas to let go because he could not breath.
The incident sparked off wide-scale protests in the US, bringing to surface anew deep rooted sectarian divide in the nation. (end) asf.rk
