CAIRO, April 7 (KUNA) -- The Arab League Tuesday warned that the Israeli occupation was seizing the opportunity when the world was busy fighting coronavirus to expand Jewish settlements on occupied Palestinian territories.
Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit, in a phone call with PLO's Executive Committee Secretary General Saeb Erekat, said Israel realized the world was busy confronting the virus by annexing parts of the West Bank, particularly in Al-Aghwar area, a league statement said.
Israel's annexation of occupied Palestinian territories is "playing with fire," said Abul Gheit, and an attempt to further fuel the situation at a time the world was in dire need of concentration of efforts to fight COVID-19.
Israel's occupation authorities, said Abul Gheit, were also mistreating around 5,000 Palestinian prisoners which made them vulnerable to the virus, in addition to inhumane treatment of Palestinian workers. (end) mfm.bs
