ISLAMABAD, March 29 (KUNA) -- At least 14 people have lost their lives across Pakistan due to Coronavirus as the nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients has crossed 1,500 on Sunday, said officials.
Pakistan's Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services, Dr. Zafar Mirza has confirmed 1,526 positive cases of COVID-19 in the country. The cases of virus in southern Sindh province rise to 469 where the eastern Punjab has been worst hit with 570 cases across the province. Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province has confirmed 138 cases, northern Khyber Pahtunkhwa province confirms 188, Gilgit-Blatistan region noted 111 cases Pakistan administered Kashmir confirmed two cases while 39 cases have been confirmed in federal capital Islamabad. Around 25 patients have fully recovered of the virus while eleven patients are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, Afghan Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan has risen to 110 including two foreign diplomats and four service members of NATO's Resolute Support mission in the country. The ministry has confirmed the death of three people as a result of the coronavirus infection, while three people have recovered so far.
Earlier, the government has ordered a three-week shut down in the capital city Kabul while sports places, wedding halls, shrines and public gathering places would remain closed across the country. Afghan Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz in a statement expressed fear that an estimated 25 million people will be infected with the coronavirus in Afghanistan but the spread can be prevented if measures are implemented.
