RIYADH, March 14 (KUNA) -- GCC health ministers with the participation of GCC Health Council, held a meeting using "visual communications" to discuss the developments of the coronavirus, known as COVID-19.
GCC's General Secretariat said, in a statement, that the meeting, which was made after an invitation by GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, tackled the current situation in each gulf country, including the procedures followed in the outlets and statistics related to the virus.
The meeting also delved into the readiness of the health sector, media and awareness plans and emergency plans in each gulf country.
The statement noted that the ministers agreed to urge citizens and residents in GCC countries to apply infection control measures, and avoid going to gathering places, as much as possible, and to maintain preventive safety procedures followed in similar situations.
The ministers stressed importance on obtaining information from official sources and not to listen to rumors from unofficial social media accounts.
The ministers also agreed to establish a joint operations room and to hold a weekly meeting at the level of GCC deputy ministers, and to exchange information and coordination in this regard.
The Health Council, in coordination with the ministries of health, issues a daily report on confirmed cases, their source, and the precautionary measures that are taken. (end) mdm.mb
