WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reaffirmed to his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu Washington's commitment to the UN-led peace process in Syria.
Pomeo, in a phone call with Cavusoglu, discussed with the Turkish top diplomat developments in the Middle East and reaffirmed US commitment to the UN-facilitated peace process in Syria, State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
Pompeo reiterated the need for NATO to play a greater role in the region, said Ortagus.
Turkey announced Friday it agreed with Russia that a ceasefire in the de-escalation zone in the northwestern Syrian city of Idleb would take effect as of midnight Sunday.
