Irbil, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government's Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) announced, Sunday, that the number of Syrian refugees in the region exceeded 19,000 people.
The JCC added, in a statement, that at least 19,018 Syrian refugees arrived in the Kurdistan region of Iraq through the Iraq-Syria border, where Ministry teams, in collaboration with UN organizations and local charitable groups, received them.
KRG allocated three camps in Duhok province, to accommodate refugees and provide them with necessary supplies, the statement indicated.
Regional officials frequently called on the international community to provide humanitarian aid to refugees and displaced Iraqis of over one million people.
More than 235,000 people were displaced for about two weeks due to recent military escalation in Idlib governorate, northwestern Syria, according to the UN. (end)
