KUWAIT, Dec 27 (KUNA) - Sports have huge amounts of fans across the globe, many are fierce supporters of their teams while others mourn defeats, however fair plays are what sport organizations seek to achieve.


Following are major sport events at local, Gulf, Arab and international levels in 2019.


Local: Jan 27: Kuwaiti Karate National Team achieved the gold medal in Open Paris Karate tournament after beating Spain.

Jan 28: Kuwait SC won His Highness the Crown Prince Football Cup after beating Qadsia SC 1-0.

Feb 14: Kuwait National Team won His Highness the Amir of Kuwait 8th International Shooting Grand Prix.

Feb 18: Kuwaiti Karate National Team won silver medal in Karate 1-Premier League in Dubai.

Feb 20: Kuwait National Team for the Disabled achieved 13 different medals in Sharjah International Open Para Athletics.

Feb 20: Kuwait SC won the Kuwaiti Basketball Federation Shield after beating Al-Qadsia SC.

Feb 21: Kuwaiti shooter Atef Al-Douseri qualified for the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 after winning 612 points in the 5 meters gun competition at the World Cup for the handicapped in Al-Ain, UAE.

Feb 22: Kuwait Athletics National Team won seven different medals in the Gulf Youth Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar.

March 16: Al-Shabab SC won His Highness Kuwait' Crown Prince's 26th Karate championship.

March 21: Kuwait won 22 different medals in the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

March 22: Kuwait SC won the Kuwaiti Basketball Premier League 2018-19 after beating Al-Jahra SC 76-63.

April 17: Kuwait SC won the Kuwaiti Basketball Federation Cup after defeating Qadsia SC 74-67

April 18: Kuwait SC won the Kuwaiti Handball Premier League after beating Kazma SC 23-18.

April 23: Kuwait SC achieved His Highness the Amir Football Cup' title for the 14th time after defeating Qadsia SC 2-0

April 27: Kuwait's racer Meshari Al-Dhefeeri achieved the first place in Jordan International Rally 2019.

May 5: Kuwait SC won the Kuwaiti Handball Federation Cup after beating Al-Arabi SC 19-18.

May 9: Kuwait SC crowned as the Kuwaiti Football Premier League champion after defeating Al-Salmiya SC 4-1.

May 25: Al-Arabi SC won the 2019 World Stadium Congress Awards for the architectural design of Sabah Al Salem Stadium development project.

June 2: Kuwait's Yousef Al-Abdulrazzaq won the World Jet Ski Championship 2019 in the Italian island of Sardinia.

June 17: Kuwaiti Shooter Eman Al-Shamaa achieved the gold medal in His Highness the Amir of Kuwait's Fifth International Shooting Cup, held in Italy.

June 30: Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was elected as President of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee 2019-2023.

July 4: International Olympic Committee (IOC) lifted the ban on the Kuwaiti sports.

Oct. 5: Kuwait Kyokushin Kan Karate team won the bronze in the open weight in the 11th European Cup, held in Britain.

Oct. 10: Kuwait's Rashed Al-Dawwas won the world's amateur Jet Ski championship, that was held in Arizona, US.

Oct. 12: Kuwait weightlifting association announced formation of the first women team to participate in regional and continental championships.

Oct. 17: Kuwait's jockey Ali Al-Kharafi won the Association of National Olympic Committees' (ANOC) award as the best athlete in Asia in 2019.

Oct. 21: Kuwait's Tareq Al-Qallaf won the Sabre competition for wheelchair fencing in Kansas. US.

Oct. 23: Kuwait billiard team won the Arab championship after garnering eight medals, including four gold.

Oct. 26: Yaqoub Al-Youha won the bronze in the 110m hurdle race in the world's military championship in China.

Oct. 26: Kuwait Bowling team won the second place in the Asian Bowling Championship that was held in Kuwait.

Oct. 27: Saud Al-Hasawi won the gold medal of the Pommel Horse of the Arab Gymnastic Championship in Tunisia.

Nov. 3: Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah has been appointed Asian Shooting Confederation president for serve four-year term.

Nov. 8: Two Kuwaiti shooters Shahad AL-Hawal and Abdurrahman Al-Faihan won the gold medal at the Mix Trap Shooting competition in Qatar.

Nov. 18: Kuwaiti grappler Aqeel Boskhar won a gold medal at the North America Grappling Association's, held in New Jersey.

Nov. 26: Kuwait's sports club beat Kadma with 3 sets volleyball match.

Dec. 12: Qadsia SC won the Super Cup for the 6th time after beating rival Kuwait SC 1-0.

Dec. 16: Kuwait men and women weightlifting team came second with 41 medals at the Arab Championship, held in Jordan.

Dec. 20: Greece won the world junior water polo championship in Kuwait.

Dec. 25: Kuwait national team won the Arab men and women's fencing tournament held in Kuwait, snatching 11 medals. The tournament saw participation of 10 teams. 

GCC:

Feb 1: Qatari National Team won the Asian Football Cup after defeating the Japanese team in the final 3-1.

March 14: The 15th Special Olympics World Games 2019 kicked off in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with the participation of 7500 athletes representing 192 countries.

Oct. 5: Qatar's Mutaz Barsham won the High Jump event in the world championship that was held in Doha, Qatar.

Nov. 24: Saudi Al-Hilal team beats Japan's Urawa club to win AFC Champions league.

Dec. 1: Saudi Arabia won the Gulf Men's Basketball championship, beating Kuwait 92-85.

Dec. 1: Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton won the Etihad Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
