WASHINGTON, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday the Democratic lawmakers were able to iron out differences with President J. Donald Trump's administration on the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
"There is no question, of course, that this trade agreement is much better than (North American Free Trade Agreement) NAFTA," she told reporters at the Capitol Hill.
"The new agreement is a victory for America's workers. It's infinitely better than what the administration originally proposed," she said. US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Senior White House Adviser Jared Kushner and Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland are expected to be in Mexico City on Tuesday for a signing ceremony, according to Foxnews.
Yesterday, Judd Deere, the special Assistant to the President and Deputy Press Secretary of the White House, said President Trump discussed with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, of Canada, the significant progress toward finalizing "the historic Agreement" (USMCA).
The two leaders reaffirmed their strong support for the trade agreement, which will create jobs and economic growth in the three countries, Deere added.
The Democrats' approval of the revised agreement sets the stage for a House vote on the deal, likely to take place later this month. (end) asj.gb
