ISLAMABAD, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- At least 25 Taliban fighters were killed in separate operations by security forces in Afghanistan's southern Zabul and Uruzgan provinces, said the Afghan Ministry of Defense on Sunday.
According to a statement by the ministry, at least 14 Taliban fighters were killed in an airstrike in Shahr-e-Safa district of Zabul where weapons and explosive devices were also destroyed. The Afghan Special Forces also launched an operation in Trinkot, capital of Uruzgan province, killing around 11 Taliban fighters including their commander, Mullah Mohammad Akbar Mutaqi, added the statement.
"The operation was launched in Trinkot with the support of the air forces in which four Taliban strongholds, vehicles and weapons were also seized by the special forces," it added.
Taliban rebels have not commented about the operation or casualties so far. (end) sbk.nam
