BAGHDAD, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- At least 10 people were killed and dozens of others wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire at a protest rally at Al-Khillani Sq. in central Baghdad on Friday.
The death toll is expected to rise further as many of the wounded are in critical condition, witnesses told KUNA.
The assailants riding four pickups broke into the protest rally and used live ammunition, knives and Molotov cocktail in the attack against the demonstrators.
They controlled parts of the square and Al-Ahrar and Al-Sank bridges while gunshots are being heard from the nearby Liberation Sq. where demonstrators continue their weeks-long sit-in protest against corruption.
Many protesters posted appeals on social media for help from the military and security forces. (end) ahh.gb
