JEDDAH, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday rejected and condemned US Secretary of State's remarks that the Israeli colonial settlements are not contrary to international law.
In a press statement, OIC said that the Israeli occupation's settlements are in flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions, especially UN Security Council resolutions 446, 452, 465, 476, 478 and 2334.
The statement stressed that all these international resolutions affirm that the Israeli settlements are illegal and constitute an attack on the rights of the Palestinian people.
"This biased US position with the Israeli occupation is a challenge to the international consensus and will undermine the rule of international law and efforts to achieve peace based on the vision of a two-state solution," it added.
It called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to shoulder its responsibilities and take concrete measures for the complete cessation of the Israeli occupation policy on the entire occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, in order to achieve peace based on the two-state solution.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Monday that President Donald Trump was changing the approach of previous US administrations on the issue of Israeli settlements.
"After consideration of all aspects of the legal debate on this issue, the administration believes that the establishment of Israeli civilian settlements in the West Bank does not in itself contravene international law," he added. (end) nso.aa
