CAIRO, Nov 15 (KUNA) -- Egypt's President Abdelfattah el-Sisi reiterated on Friday his country's firm and strategic stand towards the Libyan crisis, which aims to restore national structures and state institutions, and prevent chaotic spread of terrorist militias.
El-Sisi made his remarks during a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, where they exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, notably the Libyan situation, Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radhi said in a statement.
He stressed the importance of countering terrorism, achieving stability and security, and stopping the illegitimate external interferences in the Libyan affair that would escalate the current crisis, which, in turn, poses a major threat to security and stability of the entire Middle East and Mediterranean regions.
The will of the Libyan people must be respected and implemented in order to suit their ambition in restoring stability in their country and achieving a comprehensive development in all around its territories, said el-Sisi.
On the Egyptian-German relationship, el-Sisi expressed aspiration to continue efforts toward propelling the bilateral relationship forward and boosting it in various fields.
For her part, Merkel affirmed keenness to review the Egyptian President's vision on the Libyan crisis developments in light of the "much-appreciated" Egyptian pivotal role in the region, as well as its current presidency of the African Union.
She also reiterated her country's keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Cairo in various fields. (end) aff.ma
