IRBIL, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- The number of Syrian refugees fleeing from the military operation in northern Syria to Iraq's Kurdistan region reached 2,300, a Kurdish official source announced Saturday.
The Interior Ministry's crises joint coordination center in Kurdistan of Iraq revealed that some 734 refugees reached Iraq's Kurdistan yesterday.
The refugees were resettled at a camp in Duhok Governorate and were provided with necessary assistance, added the source.
The center urged the international community, the UN, and governmental and non-governmental organizations to provide aid to the refugees prior to the harsh winter season.
The Turkish military launched on October ninth, Operation "Peace Spring" to combat elements of the so-called Islamic State (IS/Daesh) and anti-Turkey Kurdish groups.
The US and Turkey announced Thursday a ceasefire in the areas of operation in northern Syria to allow Turkish fighters to withdraw from what Ankara refer to as the "safe zone". (end) sbr.gta
