WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump said Friday he was increasing on tariffs on Chinese products from 25 to 30 percent, effective October 1.
Trump was reacting to China's imposition of retaliatory tariffs on US imports worth about USD 75 billion in response to the recent US tariff hikes on Chinese goods, announced on August 1.
He said in a series of tweets existing 25 percent tariffs on USD 250 billion in Chinese goods would increase to 30 percent starting October 1.
Trump said tariffs on USD 300 billion in Chinese products, due to take effect on September 1 at a rate of 10 percent, would now increase to 15 percent.
"China should not have put new Tariffs on 75 BILLION DOLLARS of United States product (politically motivated!)," he said.
He said China and other countries took advantage of the US on trade and intellectual property theft which resulted in USD hundreds of billion in losses.
Trump blamed former US Administrations of allowing China to play unfair trade which increased burden on the American taxpayers. (pickup previous) rsr.bs
