KHARTOUM, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- Former United Nations economist Abdullah Hamdok has been chosen as Sudan's new prime minister, the interim ruling Transitional Military Council said on Saturday.
Hamdok, a candidate selected by the protester-led Forces of Freedom and Change, will be appointed on Tuesday as the first civilian prime minister in 30 years.
He will replace Omar Al-Bashir, who was ousted in April after angry nationwide protests, which began in December 2018.
Hamdok's appointment will be followed by the announcement of a newly-formed cabinet on August 28.
This comes after a landmark transitional power-sharing agreement earlier signed between the ruling military and the protesters.
The deal, dubbed the Constitutional Declaration, will witness the formation of a 'Sovereign Council', which will be evenly distributed between civilian and military members but led by army general Abdelfattah Al-Burhan in its initial 21 months. (end) mam.sd
