MOSCOW, July 24 (KUNA) -- Russian President's Middle East envoy Mikhail Bogdanov said Wednesday Moscow was planning to call for a meeting of UN Security Council (UNSC) to discuss developments in the Arabian Gulf region.
Tass news agency quoted Bogdanov, also Deputy Foreign Minister, as calling for discussions within the UNSC to restore stability and security "in this strategically important area." He recalled that Russia had proposed establishment of a security system in the Arabian Gulf region to maintain order.
The Russian proposal calls for the respect of interests of all countries in the region, countering terrorism, addressing conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Yemen as well as implementing Iran's nuclear agreement.
Countries in the Gulf should solve border conflicts through negotiations, said the proposal, and foreign military presense should be minimized. (end) as.bs
