CAIRO, June 15 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Ahmad Abul-Gheit will visit Sudan on Sunday as part of the League's keenness to achieve full security and stability in various member states.
During his visit, Abul-Gheit will meet the President of the Transitional Military Council, First Lieutenant General Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan and a number of leaders of the Declaration of the Forces of Freedom and Change as well as representatives of political forces and movements, the Arab League said in a statement.
Abul-Gheit will emphasize the commitment of the Sudanese parties to the peaceful path of achieving the democratic political transition that the Sudanese people aspire to within a purely national context, the statement added.
The Ethiopian mediation announced last Tuesday that the Sudanese military council and opposition groups agreed to resume talks on the formation of a transitional council.
Sudan has been racking up unrest since last December, turning anger from rising bread prices and lack of liquidity into ongoing protests that culminated in armed forces' intervention to topple President Omar Al-Bashir. (end) mfm.aa
