ADEN, June 9 (KUNA) -- An official Yemeni report unveiled on Sunday that at least 3,000 families were affected by the heavy rains and floods which inundated four Yemeni governorates on Saturday.
The report issued by the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons' Camps and aired by the Yemeni news agency (Saba) said that the floods struck four governorates, namely Lahjj, Aden, Taiz, and Hadhramaut.
Lahjj Governorate has the highest number of affected people about 1,400 families; followed by Aden 1,330 families; Taiz 315 families and Hadhramaut 35 families.
The report pointed out that the displaced people are in desperate need of food and shelter materials, clean drinking water, cleaning tools and mobile clinics for the prevention of cholera.
It cautioned against an environmental disaster and wide-spread of diseases in the camps due to the accumulation of garbage and stagnant water in the streets.
It urged all humanitarian agencies and humanitarian partners to intervene swiftly to meet the needs of the displaced people. (end) sns.ibi
