MAKKAH, May 31 (KUNA) -- Arab leaders condemned attacks by Iranian-backed on commercial ships in UAE's territorial waters as well as two oil pump stations in Saudi Arabia.
The leaders, holding an urgent summit Thursday night to discuss threats to regional security and stability, said the only way to preserve regional security and stability was through respect of good neighborliness, refraining from using of force and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit said as he was reading the final communique.
He called for importance of coordination of positions among Arab countries to confront all threats against the Arab national security, and condemned the houthis for firing Iranian-built ballistic missiles from Yemeni territories against Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia, he affirmed, has the right to take all measures necessaryo protect its territories in line with UN Charter.
Abul Gheit said Arab leaders condemned Iran's continuous support of the houtis, its meddling in Bahrain's internal affairs, supplying terrorists with weapons and arms, and igniting sectarian seditionto undermine order and security.
He condemned Iran's continuous occupation of three islands of the United Arab Emirates, and supported all peaceful measures by Abu Dhabi to regain its occupied islands.
Abul Gheit said Arab countries agreed to continue banning Iranian channels from using Arab sattelites.
The Arab countries, he added, agreed to boost diplomatic efforts with regional and international organizations to highlight Iran's practices against the security and peace in region.
They called on the international community to take a firm action against Iran's regional policies, as well as its attempts to undermine energy ecurity in the Arabian Gulf and maritime navigation.
They condemned Iran's interference in the Syrian conflict, which would not serve efforts aimed at solving the crisis.
The Arab leaders, said Abul Gheit, reaffirmed support for the Palestinian cause and the importance of solving this issue in line with relevant UN resolutions and Arab peace initiative. (pickup previous) kt.bs
