CAIRO, May 25 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi and President of Sudan's Military Council General Abdulfattah Al-Burhan agreed Saturday to support the "free will and choices" of the Sudanese people.
This came during a meeting between Al-Sisi and visiting Al-Burhan, who was making his first trip abroad, Presidency spokesman Bassam Radhy said in a statement.
Al-Sisi, added Radhi, said he was closely following developments in Sudan and affirmed Egypt's support to Sudan's security and independence.
Egypt, he added, would support "the free will and choices of the Sudanese people to formulate their future and maintain the state institutions." Al-Sisi, who expressed readiness to offer support for the Sudanese people to meet their aspirations away from foreign interference, called for supporting the Sudanese people to overcome economic hardships.
Egypt will continue its cooperation with Sudan to implement bilateral development projects like the electricity power grid linkage and the railway.
Al-Burhan thanked Egypt for supporting the Sudanese people preserve safety and stability of their country "in this historic juncture," said Radhy.
Negotiations between Sudan transitional military council and the opposition Freedom and Change Declaration have so far failed to reach any agreement. The opposition called for a two-day general strike next week to excercise pressure on the military council. (end) aff.bs
