LONDON, May 22 (KUNA) -- Britian's House of Commons leader Andrea Leadsom on Wednesday resigned from her cabinet post in disagreement over Prime Minister Theresa May's latest Brexit proposal.
Announcing her decision in a letter to the prime minister, Leadsom said she no longer believed the plans for European Union withdrawal would deliver a "truly sovereign United Kingdom." Over talk of a second referendum as a way out of the lengthy process, Leadsom said this would be "dangerously divisive," describing the transition as having reached a "complete breakdown." The House of Commons leader's resignation comes a day before EU parliamentary elections.
Since last year, some 10 cabinet ministers have resigned over Brexit-related disputes, including former Secretary of State Boris Johnson and State Secretary for Brexit David Davis. (end) mrn.sd
