TUNIS, May 18 (KUNA) -- Fierce clashes flared up in the early morning on Saturday between the forces loyal to Maj.-Gen. Khalifa Haftar and the troops of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to control the route to the airport and Salah al-Din neighborhood in the capital city of Tripoli.
These clashes came only hours after other violent confrontations broke out at Ayn Zara with heavy weapons and rockets, causing some casualties, Libyan free-to-air satellite channel (218TV) said in a report.
Meanwhile, Libyan newspaper Al-Marsad said that the so-called Islamic State carried out this dawn an attack on guards of a gate leading to a main oil well in central Libya where Haftar's forces are centered.
An armed group infiltrated from the desert and attacked the guards of the gate, killing four personnel, the newspaper quoted some local sources as saying. On April 4, armed confrontations erupted between Haftar and the GNA's troops around the capital that led to the killing and wounding of hundreds as well as the displacement of thousands others.
