NEW YORK, May 18 (KUNA) -- The meetings of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations discussed the important role of NGOs in humanitarian work and focused on respecting the sovereignty of countries.
The remarks were made to KUNA on Saturday by representative of the global fund for development and planning Abdulmohsen Al-Azmi.
The meeting held from 16 to 24 May will also discuss requests presented by international NGOs to receive an advisory position.
The position will allow NGOs to engage in the UN's Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as other UN organizations and bodies in charge of human rights, weapons and other issues, Al-Azmi said.
The committee includes 19 member countries from around the world, with a membership period of four years. (end) asf.ag
